Point Dume is one of my favorite spots for Malibu engagement photos. Not only did Justin and I do our engagement photos in Malibu, but there’s so many beautiful spots for variety. I just keep coming back here because I know it will provide cliffside views overlooking the ocean, as well as a beautiful sunset on the beach.
Where to Go
Whenever I have a couple doing Malibu engagement photos, I bring them to Point Dume State Beach. It’s a large beach, so we always go into the paid lot and park as close to Lifeguard Tower #1. I find this is a fantastic meeting spot right next to the trail and right near bathrooms.
The Trails
I love to start engagement photos in Malibu overlooking the ocean. There’s a trail at this beach to head up to the bluffs, and it takes about 5-10 minutes up a dirt path to hit an amazing view. In the Spring, flowers might be blooming in the greenery surrounding the trails, and there’s also a couple areas of beach access if you walk around the perimeter.
The Beach
I love ending Malibu engagement photo sessions on the beach. The sunset never fails here. From a photographer’s perspective, the sun sets at just the right angle, too, where we have room to play around with the light. Once the sun goes down, the blue hour glow is so gentle and quiet. You can’t go wrong!!
