Authentic, Candid, Documentary Wedding Photography | Part 2

One of my favorite types of photos are candid wedding photos–the photos of moments I had no part in creating–just capturing. These days, the trending wedding photography style is documentary wedding photography. Documentary wedding photography is a skill and an art, and it starts with knowing how a wedding day works.

My style is not just documentary.

I don’t think most people want only documentary photos. People usually want genuine, authentic photos, with formal portraits mixed in. So instead, my style is a mixture of classic portraits (not candid, but rather camera aware, put together photos; e.g. a family group photos), and candids (real moments). Some of the day will have time set aside of portraits of my bride and groom, their bridal party, and families. Those are all such special photos to take with you after your day. They’re framers, they’re perfect for memories of the closest people in your life, and they’re clean. But some of the most magical photos that thrill me are unplanned, candids.

The more I continue shooting weddings, the more I find fleeting moments that deserve to be shared. So, here is the second edition of authentic, candid wedding photos that I can’t believe I captured. These are the in between moments; photos of moments only few eyes saw, and I am so glad mine did. Some are on film, and some are digital. They all invoke nostalgia for me!

Rachel and Stephen’s Wedding Day

Nested in the middle of Santa Clarita, Rachel and Stephen’s wedding day was full of such deep emotion, excitement, and celebration. For more photos from this wedding, check out this post!

I love taking photos and exclaiming to my couples, “You’re married now!” or “Look at your WIFE!” and getting their reactions. It’s always priceless. It hasn’t sunk in yet, and it’s all NEW!

Documentary and Classics

I’ll always be searching for moments on a wedding day. Between all the formal portraits and events, I’m scanning, looking for moments or details to capture for your memories. So while I am not exclusively a documentary photographer, I incorporate it so much into the day that I just can’t help but describe these kinds of candids as such. If what you see if your style and you want a combination of classics and candids, I’m your girl. Let’s get your wedding photography process started.
